Public Board Meeting Highlights - June 4, 2024
The Chair called the meeting to order at 6:42 p.m.
The Board received a report from the Riel-Evate Endowment Fund Committee.
The Board approved shared service agreements for 2024-2025.
Notice of motion was provided: THAT the Louis Riel School Division, to the extent permitted by The Financial Administration Act or any other Act, seek approval of the Lieutenant Governor in Council to borrow up to $10 million to ensure completion of the new school in Sage Creek in time for the 2025-2026 school year.
Notice of motion was provided: THAT the Board amend the Procedural Bylaws Section C, item 1.B. to remove term limits for the Chair and Vice-Chair positions. The Chair and Vice-Chair will continue to be elected annually; however, they can run as many times as they desire.
Notice of motion was provided: WHEREAS members of the Dr. D. W. Penner School community have expressed interest in having their children complete their elementary school studies at the same school rather than transition to Minnetonka School or Darwin School for Grades 7 & 8; and WHEREAS a divisional review has shown this request to be viable; BE IT RESOLVED THAT Dr. D. W. Penner become a Kindergarten to Grade 7 school in September 2024 and a Kindergarten to Grade 8 school in September 2025.
Board motions approved administrative staff appointments.
The Board received information on the ELA provincial exams, a space utilization survey, the launch of La Liberte Magazine, the 2023-2024 FIPPA annual report, accessibility plan updates, and the Pride Parade on June 2.
The Policy Review Committee reviewed and amended Policy EBCA - Emergency Preparedness Plan and Administrative Protocol supporting Policy AC - Respect for Human Diversity.
Policy KLG - School relations with Police Services, reviewed by the Policy Review Committee, received second reading.
By motion, the Board supported the request for a Balanced School Day at École Julie-Riel, effective September 2024; approved international travel for 2024-2025; approved the list of Board Meeting dates for the 2024-2025 school year; adopted Bylaw 20232024-004 to authorize the instruction of religion at Shamrock School during the 2024-2025 school year.
The Chair adjourned the meeting at 7:59 p.m.
