  • Student Support Services

Louis Riel School Division embraces a philosophy of inclusive and appropriate education for all children consistent with the standards outlined in Appropriate Educational Programming in Manitoba - Standards for Student Services.

"Inclusion is a way of thinking and acting that allows every individual to feel accepted, valued and safe. An inclusive community consciously evolves to meet the changing needs of its members. Through recognition and support, an inclusive community provides meaningful involvement and equal access to the benefits of citizenship."

In Manitoba, we embrace inclusion as a means of enhancing the well-being of every member of the community. By working together, we strengthen our capacity to provide the foundation for a richer future for all of us.

Appropriate educational programming starts in the classroom with the student, the students' parent(s), and the students' teacher(s). Student-specific planning is a process that guides educators in identifying student needs, providing programming supports, and monitoring student progress.

Student Support Services in the Educational Planning Process

Most students achieve the expected learning outcomes of provincial curricula with the support of teachers who use a variety of instructional and assessment strategies and materials. For some students, teachers and parents will identify that they are experiencing learning challenges and will initiate conversations. Collaborative planning to support students occurs at the student, classroom and school levels. The level of supports required for a student determines the size and composition of the team supporting the planning and the degree of student-specific planning.

Please contact your child's classroom teacher if you have questions about their educational experience.
