    Important Note: Although Physical Education 40F is a Grade 12 credit for graduation purposes, the Universities do not count it as a credit for University Entrance.

    Grade 10

    Physical and Health Education (PE20F) 1 credit

    Students are provided with a planned and balanced program in order to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for physically active and healthy lifestyles.

    Student Learning Outcomes include:

    1. Movement
    2. Fitness Management
    3. Safety
    4. Personal and Social Management
    5. Healthy Lifestyle Practices

     

    Students will:

    • work towards the Learning Outcomes through a variety of activities which might include:
      • Individual/group/team activities
      • Classroom based activities
      • Integrated topics
    • be in combined Gr. 9/10 classes in order to provide increased choice in activities

    Special Note:  Students are required to bring appropriate physical education attire (runners, sweats or shorts, and a T-shirt). Students may be required to pay some fees associated with some activities (i.e. bowling, golf, fitness)

     

     

    GRADE 11/12 ACTIVE HEALTHY LIFESTYLES

    The Grade 11/12 Physical Education course is called Active Healthy Lifestyles PE 30F/40F.  Students will have the option of choosing the stream that suits their needs and interests in the area of physical activity and lifestyle choices.  See options below:


    Physical Education: Individual Fitness Training (PEIF30F/PEIF40F) -  1 credit

    This stream is designed for the student who wants to work independently on improving and maintaining their fitness levels.

    Students will: 

    • assess their fitness level throughout the course and then design a fitness program suited to their likes/dislikes, as well as personal needs in the area of physical fitness.

     

    This course promotes the importance of health and fitness as a lifelong goal. Students will work to take greater ownership of their own physical fitness. A variety of activities/training methods will encourage students to expand their individual interests and pursue an active lifestyle that persists beyond high school. Students will develop skills to critically evaluate fitness options and facilities available in the community. Students will cover course materials that relate to the development of an individual fitness plan appropriate for meeting their carefully planned and realistic health and fitness goals.

     

    Physical Education: Female Fitness (PEFF30F/PEFF40F) 1 credit

    This stream has been developed to help encourage greater participation in an all-female environment. In class activities take place in our Fitness Room and include circuits, boot camps, yoga, interval training, and all types of aerobics. Students will go on many field trips to experience different types of workouts and be exposed to a variety of facilities that can be accessed after graduation. .

    Students will: 

    • be in a female only environment
    • be taking themselves to the next level in terms of their own personal fitness.

     

    Physical Education: Male Fitness (PEMF30FB/PEMF40F) 1 credit

    This stream is designed to help our male students develop their health and wellness through fitness training, sport-specific conditioning, and sports / games. Many different team sports, as well as individual sports, will be introduced. 

    Students will: 

    • be in a male only environment
    • be introduced to various strength training programs, visit various facilities, and gain a greater awareness of nutrition
    • develop a personal fitness plan to help them reach their own individual goals

     

    Physical Education: General (PE30F/PE40F) 1 credit

    This stream is for students who do not have a specific focus but would rather sample all the different activities and fitness workouts. The course is co-ed and will do activities and games both inside and outside

    Students will: 

    • take part in various sports and physical activities at the school. 
    • study topics related to fitness management, mental health, substance use and abuse prevention, and the social impact of sport. 

     

    Physical Education: Soccer Focus (SAS30F/SAS40F) 1 credit

    This stream is for students who love soccer. Classes will take place both in the gym and on the turf field behind our school. Students will experience small-sided indoor games, futsal, full field outdoor soccer games and much more!

    Students will: 

    • be introduced to university pre-game meetings, game planning, and game analysis.
    • gain valuable information regarding coaching teams
    • gain a greater awareness of nutrition and develop a personal fitness plan to help them reach their own individual goals.


    Physical Education: Basketball Focus (SAB30F/SAB40F) 1 credit

    Is your competitive career winding down or just getting started? Improve skills and fitness, explore coaching and officiating, and look at the world through the impact of basketball. Basketball is just a game…however if you are in this course it is a passion.

    Students will: 

    • be introduced to university pre-game meetings, game planning, and game analysis.
    • gain valuable information regarding coaching teams
    • gain a greater awareness of nutrition and develop a personal fitness plan to help them reach their own individual goals.

    Physical Education: Volleyball Focus (SAV30F/SAV40F) 1 credit

    Is your competitive career winding down or just getting started? Improve skills and fitness, explore coaching and officiating, and look at the world through the impact of volleyball. Volleyball is just a game…however if you are in this course it is a passion.

    Students will:

    • be introduced to university pre-game meetings, game planning, and game analysis.
    • gain valuable information regarding coaching teams
    • gain a greater awareness of nutrition and develop a personal fitness plan to help them reach their own individual goals.

    Physical Education: Sports and Conditioning: Female Only - (PESF30/PESF40F) -  1 credit

    This stream will offer our females the opportunity to compete and have fun playing both individual and team sports, fitness training and/or sport specific conditioning. 

    Students will:

    • Participate in low organized games, court sports, outdoor activities, field sports, resistance training, circuits, yoga, bodyweight workouts, etc. will all be included in this course.

    Physical Education: Sports and Conditioning: Male Only - (PESM30/PESM40F) -  1 credit

    This stream is designed to help our male students develop their health and wellness through individual and team sports and games, fitness training, and/or sport-specific conditioning. 

    Students will:

    • Be introduced to many different types of workouts will be introduced including station workouts, 2 and 3 day splits, supersets, body weight, TRX, functional fitness training, and much more. 
    • Have visits to fitness facilities throughout the city will enhance students' knowledge for future options. Ample opportunity to play in competitive sports both inside and outside will be provided. 

    Physical Education: Alternative Pursiuts (OE31F/OE41F) 1 credit

    This stream is for students wanting to be outside, active, and explore activities beyond the normal gym and sports structure! 

    Students will:

    • Winter activities involve snowshoeing, cross country skiing, quinzhee building, ice skating and sledding. 
    • Spring and Summer involves exploring the local area through community walks, geocaching, choice of a biking unit and small repairs, backyard games, disc golf, racquet sports, and onsite Archery.
    • Experiences may include rock climbing at U of M and bouldering at The Hive, dragon boating on the Red River, cross-country skiing at Windsor Park Golf Course, horse back riding and hiking at Birds Hill Park, and Parkour at Serratus Movement Center.
