This morning, students in Room 17, along with a few students from Grade 5, celebrated and recognized National Indigenous People's Day. Students started off learning about the significance of the day and the art used in the promotional poster. Did you know that the three main groups of Indigenous people are represented? The eagle represents the First Nations People, the narwhale represents the Inuit, and the violin represents the Métis. The poster is meant to be inclusive of all Indigenous people. To celebrate students were engaged in various centers; making bracelets, Indigenous language word searches, trivia board game and making their own promotional posters to share with their families.
