What's Happening at Collège Béliveau

This Month

Collège Béliveau - Home of the Barracudas

Collège Béliveau is a Grade 7 to 12 French Immersion centre that employs 50 teaching and non-teaching staff.  We are a diverse community that draws its population from four schools: École Guyot, École Henri-Bergeron, École Howden and École Van Belleghem.  The mission of our learning community is to nurture all students to become successful, bilingual learners and responsible global citizens.

Varsity Girls Basketball

Congratulations are in order for our Varsity Girls Basketball team who beat the Windsor Park Collegiate Royals last Friday with a school of 71 to 67 at St. John's Ravenscourt.  They will be on their way to Brandon on Thursday, March 18th for the Provincial AAA finals this weekend.  Way to go!!!  Good luck in the tournament!!!

Jeune Artiste du Manitoba

Carly Berthon has recently won the competition Jeune artiste du Manitoba, sponsored by Canadian Parents for French.  This was a competition similar to American Idol with 60 artists performing for a shot at the crown.  Carly placed first in the competition, winning $1000 as well as a prize from the public worth $150.  She will be interviewed by CKSB tonight at 4:35 (March 15th).  You can also see her this evening on Radio Canada at 6:00p.m.  Congratulations, Carly!  You will continue to go far with your talents!

Operation Donation

Operation Donation is underway at Collège Béliveau. Students are encouraged to bring in non-perishable food items to support Winnipeg Harvest's food drive this year. Our goal is to collect 1000 food items for the Louis Riel School Division Board Office drop-off this month. If we reach this goal, students will be awarded an extra half an hour of lunch time in appreciation of all their hard work! As part of this initiative, each PEP class will also be awarded points based on the number of items that they bring in, which will be attributed to their school color. Let's go, Team Bleu!!!

In celebration of Pi, students were able to purchase apple pie and ice cream on Friday, March 12th.  Thanks to their participation, we were able to raise another $350 that will also go directly to Winnipeg Harvest to purchase another 700 food items.  Bravo once again for your generous spirit!!!

Congratulations to our High School Choir

Congratulations go out to our High School Choir who recently received a Gold standing at the Winnipeg Music Festival under the guidance of Mme Kirsten Schellenberg.  It was a really great moment for our small choir and an excellent affirmation of all their hard work. The adjudicator praised the girls for their excellent tone, their commitment to the music and their ability to communicate (all things that Mme Schellenberg and her students have been working diligently on in class).  They did an amazing job and should be very proud of their extraordinary accomplishment at the Festival.  Bravo!!!

Luke Savoie

Luke Savoie is a 15 year old student at Collège Béliveau with Cerebral Palsy. He is a very important part of life at Collège Béliveau, sharing his amazing spirit and sense of humour with us on a daily basis.

Luke and his family have gone to Chicago for the surgery on his spinal cord at Shriner's Children's Hospital. The two surgeries will involve a hospital stay of 5 to 8 weeks with a period of time in traction followed by the surgery.

We are keeping Luke in our thoughts as we wish him a very speedy recovery.  We look forward to having our "Bionic Man" back among us!
