École Sage Creek Bonavista Enrolment Reaches Capacity for Grade 2 for the 2026-2027 School Year
École Sage Creek Bonavista is a vibrant and growing part of the Louis Riel School Division (LRSD). As the neighbourhood expands, so does the student population, creating significant enrolment pressure at the school. To manage this situation, the LRSD Board of Trustees made the necessary decision at its February 17, 2026, meeting to continue to redirect new enrolments at specific grades to École Van Belleghem when enrolment caps have been reached.
As of February 23, 2026, next year’s enrolment in Grade 2 at École Sage Creek Bonavista has reached capacity. Accordingly, new registrations received for this grade (along with those for any siblings) will be redirected to École Van Belleghem, which has room to welcome more students. Class size at École Van Belleghem will be monitored, and additional staffing will be allocated, if deemed necessary.
Children currently attending École Sage Creek Bonavista are not affected by this announcement. The redirection plan applies only to new registrations in the grade specified.
This redirection plan remains in place for the 2026-2027 school year and will continue as long as enrolment pressures persist. It is part of LRSD’s ongoing efforts to maintain safe, equitable learning environments and manageable class sizes for all students. Please note that all redirected families will receive school bus transportation at no cost.

Sage Creek School Enrolment Reaches Capacity for Grades 1 and 2 for the 2026-2027 School Year
Sage Creek School continues to be a vibrant and growing part of the Louis Riel School Division (LRSD), welcoming new families every year. As the neighbourhood expands, so does the student population, creating significant enrolment pressure at the school. To manage this situation, the LRSD Board of Trustees made the necessary decision at its February 17, 2026, meeting to continue to redirect new enrolments at specific grades to Shamrock School when enrolment caps have been reached.
As of February 23, 2026, next year’s enrolment in Grades 1 and 2 at Sage Creek School has reached capacity. Accordingly, new registrations received for these grades will be redirected to Shamrock School (along with those for any siblings), which has ample capacity to welcome more students. Class size at Shamrock School will be monitored, and additional staffing will be allocated, if deemed necessary.
Children currently attending Sage Creek School are not affected by this announcement. The redirection plan applies only to new registrations in the grades specified.
Families who have already been redirected to and attending Shamrock will be contacted in order of registration if space becomes available at Sage Creek School in their child’s specific grade level. They will then have the option to transfer to their neighbourhood school.
Long-Term Planning for a Growing Community
Sage Creek is located in the southeast quadrant of the school division, one of the fastest-growing areas of the city. To meet the needs of the community, LRSD’s long-range facilities plan—Plan 2034—includes the proposed construction of a new English program elementary school in Precinct J (the area south and east of Southland Park, bounded by Abinojii Mikanah to the south, Plessis Road to the east, Fermor Avenue to the north, and Lagimodière Boulevard to the west – often referred to as Dawson Trail). This project will help alleviate enrolment pressures in Sage Creek and ensure families in the neighbourhood continue to have access to high-quality public education close to home.
LRSD will continue to advocate for provincial investment in new school infrastructure to support this growing community. In the meantime, the redirection plan is one of several short- and medium-term strategies being used to balance enrolment across the division.
Questions?
If you are a family considering or planning a move into the Sage Creek area and have questions about registration or redirection in the English program, please contact Shamrock School (Grades 1 and 2), Sage Creek School (for all other grades), or the LRSD Board Office.
