The International Student Program and LRSD Go Global invites Community, Colleagues and Friends to become part of its homestay program. It is a valuable opportunity to open your home and your heart, and to give your time to support young visiting international high school students, as they grow and thrive in their study abroad experience. This Fall, LRSD Go Global expects more than 100 students to join its program, all requiring a temporary home away from home.
Homestay families play an important role in students’ experience. They provide a safe, welcoming home, meals, and day-to-day support as students adjust to school and life in Canada. LRSD Go Global carefully matches students and families, provides ongoing support, and offers a generous monthly stipend to help offset living costs.
Homestay families…
- Have a genuine interest in other cultures and in supporting students’ adjustment to theirs, and adjustment to school and life in Canada
- Provide a safe and stable home environment
- Communicate openly with students and LRSD Go Global staff, as needed
Homestay families provide…
- Private, furnished rooms in a clean and safe home
- Three balanced meals per day, and reasonable snacks
- Access to laundry facilities and WiFi internet
- Opportunities for students to practice English and to experience Canadian culture by being part of the family
