Who We Are
Nelson McIntyre Collegiate (NMC) is a Grade 9–12 school in the Louis Riel School Division committed to reimagining high school learning for today’s world. We are a small, relationship-centered school that prioritizes belonging, student voice, and meaningful pathways for every learner.
Since 2016, NMC has developed a project-based and inquiry-driven approach to learning that creates authentic, real-world connections across subject areas. Our model supports deeper learning and helps students build transferable skills through the 6 Cs—Communication, Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, Citizenship, and Character, while also emphasizing Career Development as a core focus across all grade levels.
Interdisciplinary learning is central to the NMC experience from Grade 9 through Grade 12. Students engage in integrated projects that connect multiple subject areas, allowing them to explore complex questions and real-world challenges in meaningful ways. In Grades 9 and 10, students build a strong foundation in inquiry and collaboration through project-based learning experiences that intentionally connect core subjects. In Grades 11 and 12, students have opportunities to deepen this work through specialized interdisciplinary programming, including Propel, our Grades 11 and 12 project-based programming, as well as emerging land-based courses that integrate areas such as Biology, English Language Arts, and History through hands-on, community-connected learning.
Our programming continues to evolve to reflect our commitment to equity, Indigenous perspectives, and learning that is connected to community and land. Students are encouraged to see the relationships between disciplines, develop a strong sense of purpose, and apply their learning in authentic contexts.
With our smaller population, NMC offers a personalized high school experience with big opportunities. In addition to our academic programming, students can access:
- Programming supporting diverse learning needs
- A strong athletics program
- A highly regarded band program
- A wide range of extracurricular activities and student leadership opportunities
We are proud to welcome students from across the Louis Riel School Division who are seeking an engaging, flexible, and future-focused high school experience.
At NMC, we believe learning is most powerful when it is relevant, connected, and grounded in relationships, with each other, with community, and with the land.
