Celebrate Indigenous Learning at HS Paul

As part of our Indigenous education learning, students at HS Paul have engaged in various inquiries around the history of residential schools, treaty education, creative arts, Cree language learning in K-2 with Cree teacher Courtney Kirkness, Indigenous medicines and plants, Indigenous foods, and Indigenous land-based learning at the Seine River Forest. Staff worked with Ms. Bobbie Jo Leclair, a member of the LRSD Indigenous learning team, to develop their capacity in understanding Indigenous teachings and knowledge.
With Metis teacher, Mr. Mike Johnston, some students created an Indigenous student leadership group who met throughout the year to discuss identity, culture and belonging. They broke Bannock together and created a safe space to go and be heard.
Students worked with LRSD elder, Grandma Chickadee to hear about Indigenous teachings and knowledge and Mr. Wab Kinnew came to our assembly to share his journey with our community.
Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day, and students are sharing their Indigenous learning with one another through gallery walks, sharing circles, storytelling, art displays, songs, and activities. Our goal of honoring and understanding one another through education, learning and sharing will continue to be a priority in the years to come.
