2024 LRSD Graduation Powwow
We are excited to announce that on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, the Louis Riel School Division (LRSD) community is invited to join us at Dakota Collegiate's Murray Field to celebrate the class of 2024.
Every year, the number of graduates participating in the LRSD Graduation Powwow has grown. Indigenous and non-Indigenous students alike are welcome to honour Indigenous culture and their own and their class's achievements. This year's event will feature 80 students from the division-wide Powwow Club, who will be honoured with reception into the powwow circle and who will be wearing regalia they can take home and treasure forever.
Participating graduates will receive a stole as a memento of the event.
"The powwow is a culmination of learning throughout the year and an opportunity to celebrate Indigenous culture, diversity, and community," said Director of School & Classroom Supports Corey Kapilik, who heads the many staff and students involved in organizing the powwow.
This year's event will again pay tribute to Jules Lavallee, an important and beloved member of the LRSD community. The LRSD Graduation Powwow will celebrate Jules' legacy and his impact on the LRSD community as a Grandfather.
Coco Ray Stevenson will again be the Master of Ceremonies, and Walking Wolf Singers will be the Host Drum.
The planning team is looking for drum groups and dancers to participate in this year's Powwow. An honorarium will be provided to those who register. For more information, please email tammy.bruce@lrsd.net.
In the event of rain, the powwow will go on as planned but will move into the Dakota Collegiate gymnasium.
We look forward to seeing you at Dakota Collegiate's Murray Field on June 5, 2024, for the LRSD Graduation Powwow.
