Windsor Park Collegiate Creates a Strong Sense of Belonging
Windsor Park Collegiate strives to create a strong sense of belonging through students’ experience. Last year WPC has put on 5 school-wide field trips; the corn maze, bowling, a Manitoba Moose game, Holiday Mountain ski trip, and Activate. We had 208 different students participate in events throughout the year, which is nearly 30% of our student population. Over 100 students went on more than one of our field trips. We also had participation from every single program at WPC.
All the field trips were offered at a reduced cost to ensure that all students were able to attend. The Canadian Children’s Optimist Foundation was instrumental in the success of our initiative. The CCOF provided us with a generous Spread Relief grant to support three field trips.
The number of heart-warming moments that we saw over the course of the year was countless. We saw many students at their best, and new relationships between staff and students formed. Feedback from the students shows how important belonging is at WPC.
“They are an amazing opportunity to meet new kids and create amazing memories that not everyone can do outside of school. The school-wide field trips allow so many of us to try new things.”
“It’s a nice opportunity for the students to take a break from a big workload but still be involved and engaged with the school.”
“The school wide field trips were fun and helped me make friends when I was new at the beginning of the year.”
“It is an amazing experience and it’s special because not a lot of schools get the opportunity.”
“It was great to make new friends and bond with teachers.”
