Prime Minister's Awards for Teaching Excellence open for nominations

Staff in Louis Riel School Division are invited to help recognize outstanding classroom practice by nominating an exceptional teacher for the Government of Canada’s Prime Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence and Teaching Excellence in STEM.

Nominate an exceptional teacher

The awards honour certified elementary and secondary teachers who demonstrate innovative, exemplary teaching, prepare students for a digital and innovation-based economy, and support student success and skills development. Both individual teachers and teams of up to three teachers may be nominated, provided all meet the program’s eligibility criteria.

Key details and deadline

Nomination packages must be submitted to the Prime Minister’s Awards program by Jan. 14, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. Any person or group with direct knowledge of a teacher’s contributions—including students, parents, colleagues, principals, and community leaders—may act as a nominator; self-nominations and nominations from immediate family members are not permitted.

How to nominate

A complete nomination package includes a signed nomination form, detailed nomination text addressing the five selection criteria, three letters of support, a copy of the teacher’s certification, and a principal-signed statement of employment. Full guidelines and templates are available on the “Nominate a teacher – Prime Minister’s Awards” webpage, along with contact details and frequently asked questions.
