We are so proud of our ÉSCS's Community Garden and our successful first year with Winnipeg Harvest's Grow a Row campaign thanks to the support from parents, students and school staff. Click here to learn more about Grow a Row, a wonderful project where home-grown food donations are made to Winnipeg Harvest then distributed to people in need.
Early in May, some of our Educational Assistants cleared and prepped our garden area. Later in May, PAC community members donated seeds and seedlings that were then planted by teachers. PAC volunteers and staff members watered and tended the garden in a rotating schedule every Tuesday and Friday with support from custodians to provide water access.
The first crop was picked and delivered to Winnipeg harvest July 21. The next round was picked and delivered Aug 7. We are thankful to amazing parents who carried the majority of the garden in July and August. On Friday, Sept 18th, the garden was harvested by Mme Chaput's class. On Saturday, 37 pounds of produce was dropped off at Winnipeg Harvest. Several classes have now volunteered to finish clearing, pruning, composting and turning the garden over for winter.
We would like to thank all students, parents and staff who were involved in making this such a success!
