Mrs. Vankoughnett and I would like to officially welcome each of you to the 2021-22 school year. We and our staff can't wait to see and work with your children! We are so appreciative of the flexibility, understanding and patience that you, the ÉSCS parents, have demonstrated during the last few weeks. We would also like to highlight the flexibility and understanding of our staff who have worked hard preparing to welcome your child into their classrooms.
ÉSCS 2021 School Start-Up Plan
We have been working hard on the ÉSCS 2021 School Start-Up Plan and are happy to share many updates with you. Included, you will find a copy of the plan. We encourage parents to read it in it's entirety as it provides a lot of important information related to various routines and procedures. In addition to providing the attached plan, we have also included below, some timely highlights for the beginning of the year. Our hope is that you begin by reading the information below and follow up with the important information in the attachment.

Opening Day Conferences (ONLINE IN TEAMS)
Thanks to the many families who have already booked their conferences. We want to make sure that it is clear that the conferences will be held virtually, through TEAMS, therefore unfortunately parents and students will not be coming to the school in-person for the Opening Day Conferences. If you have not yet booked your conference, please do so following the instructions sent by email on Tuesday morning. If you are having difficulty booking, please call the office on Tuesday morning, at (204) 253-8199 and our secretaries would be pleased to help you.
First Day of school
- Students should be dropped off between 8:40 and 8:45 at their drop-off location. See the map on page 2 of the attached "ÉSCS 2021 Start-Up Plan" to confirm where your child's "drop-off" location is located. We know that the "morning entry process" will take a longer than usual as we practice entering "one class at a time" while also physically distancing 2 meters. The same is true for the end of day. Because students cannot simply leave the school at the 3:30 bell, it will take longer for your child to exit the school. As per page 3 of the plan, the best place to meet your child at the end of the day, would be at the same line where they were dropped off in the morning! Please be patient at the beginning of the year as it may take a few extra minutes for all classes to exit.
- All of our wing's doors will be locked all day every day. If a child is late, they must enter through the main front doors instead of their cohort's door. Please ensure that your child is aware that, if ever they try to enter a door and it is locked, they should go to the main front door. If you are walking them to school and they are late, a reminder that parents should wait outside at the main front doors and direct their children to the office where our office staff will help them get to class.
- Because we want to ensure students are able to enjoy their lunch, we want to make sure that parents are aware that, like last year, microwave use is suspended and the canteen is not available. Thanks for taking this into consideration as you prepare their lunch.
Paying school fees ONLINE
Please note that, we are so very happy to share that we recently learned that families now have the option of using the Parent Portal to pay their fees using a credit card! Please see near the bottom of page 4 of the "Start-Up Plan", for more information on how you can pay your fees online.
Please note that today, the government announced that all Manitoba schools will be closed on Thursday, Sept 30th in observance of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This was not on the original "ÉSCS Important Dates for 2021-22" calendar sent in June and again in August! See the attached updated calendar.
