Leadership Story – Written by
Gr 8 student Nash
It's been a hard year for everyone. With all the restrictions and the distancing, it's been tough. Yet our very own Leadership group, teachers and students, have tried their best to make us feel better! With some help, I've compiled all the things the Frontenac Leadership team has done over the past few months.
This February, staff and students created "kindness messages", sticky notes that had all sorts of positive messages written down for all the students to hear on the announcements. Near the end of the month, we gifted each class kindness boxes filled with goodies!
To spread awareness about mental health, the leadership team created a Mental Health Calendar. The calendar included little things you could do each day to improve your mental state. This surely helped everyone during this challenging time!
During the spring months, Frontenac leadership hosted a week of fun, Spirit Week! Every day during spirit week involved many enjoyable activities! For example, one day it could be "wacky hair day", then the next would be "dress up as a teacher day". Spirit Week was tons of fun, and I want to thank our leadership team for making all of it happen!
To try to keep the school connected during in-person and online learning, the leadership team planned lots of assemblies, some to talk about current events (Proper way of staying safe during COVID-19), and some just for fun (Bingo, Kahoot, Mad libs). Occasionally, we would even have some guest speakers, talking about all sorts of things, and guest readers, who would read stories they wanted to share!
For one of the last things we did, the leadership students decided to give every single student a sunflower seed to plant! It would be picked up at the front of the school and included a cup that held a soil disk, instructions on how to plant the seed, and the seed itself taped onto the paper. I for one, can't wait to see how these sunflowers look once they've fully blossomed!
In conclusion, the efforts of the Frontenac leadership team made everyone feel more engaged with school, even while we were all stuck at home. We've spread positivity and enjoyment, using all the resources that were available to us! This is a great example of how a group of students and teachers can collaborate to create a memorable year. Great job everyone!
