Some of our SLP, grade 5/6 and grade 1/2 students are in the process of learning how to be chefs. They recently went to the Bistro in the Park Café to learn how to make lasagna from a Red Seal Chef, Chef Michael and his staff created special recipes for students to follow and put on a hands on instructional cooking class for some of General Vanier's students. These students will now be peer leaders at General Vanier School as they teach what they have learned at the Bistro to their classmates, canteen staff, and helpers and they will be introducing this new menu item to our canteen for you to try in the near future.
On behalf of our chefs-in-training and those GV students about to enjoy lasagna from the canteen, I want to extend a huge thank you to Michael, Heather and Bob for working with our students to create an excellent new menu item for our canteen. The morning was such a fantastic learning experience for our students. I heard comments like, "This is the best school day ever", and "This is worth missing 2 recesses and a gym class for". The next phase of our challenge will be to recreate the lasagna meal for our GV students.
