Nelson McIntyre Collegiate would like to congratulate Chloe Gate on her accomplishment on being selected as a University of Manitoba Indigenous Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship recipient. Chloe is a dedicated student who has been an extraordinary member of the Nelson McIntyre Collegiate community over the past three and half years. Teachers and fellow students have recognized her creativity, acknowledging her accomplishments with a "Nelson McIntyre Collegiate Torchbearer Award for Creativity" because of her "outside of the box" thinking. She is looking forward continuing her studies at the University of Manitoba in the Faculty of Science in the fall.
Indigenous Leader of Tomorrow Scholarships are "designed to recognize and support exceptional Indigenous high school graduates who demonstrate outstanding leadership potential and academic giftedness". A $16 000 scholarship allocated over four years of study, these scholarships are a tremendous support to students.
Over the years, Chloe has been involved with our Indigenous Student Council, Junior Achievement Team and Breakfast Club. In each area Chloe has had a desire to take on leadership roles. On an award winning Junior Achievement Team, Chloe was integral to our production team. The environmentally friendly reusable bag they produced resulted in the team attaining more sales than any another team in the competition. Chloe is also an advocate for women's rights. She was an ambassador with our United Way Youth Chapter and identified needs, such as reusable menstrual products, to help fight poverty amongst women. Her concerns for the environment and poverty resulted in her spearheading several clothing swaps last year which gave students the opportunity to choose clothing they may not have been able to afford otherwise.
We are excited to share this wonderful news for Chloe. We wish her all the best as she moves on to the next phase of her education journey. Good luck at the University of Manitoba in the fall!
