Become A Homestay Family

Happy Homestay 2.pngThe Louis Riel School Division (LRSD) welcomes international students every year who come from countries all over the world to learn English or French and learn about the Canadian way of life.

Hosting an international student is a great chance for families to represent Winnipeg and Canada and to learn about another culture at the same time.

Local homestay families provide safe home environments for international students while they study in our LRSD schools and discover more about our communities and Canadian culture.

Homestay families receive a monthly allowance to help with the costs of hosting the student. More importantly, homestay families develop friendships and learn about the international student's home country and culture.

We are looking for families to host international students for various durations:

  • Full school year
  • One semester
  • Summer enrichment program
  • Short-term student stays
  • Emergency placements

Interested? See our Homestay Experience Slideshow and Apply to become a homestay family.

A homestay family is expected to provide their international student(s) a safe, comfortable and friendly home environment where they can practice English or French language skills and learn about Canadian culture.

Families also provide three meals per day with reasonable snacks, as well as a private, furnished bedroom with access to telephone, internet, bathroom and laundry facilities.

Being a Homestay Family can provide your family with an amazing experience as well as make all the difference in the success of an international student's education and time in Canada.

If you are interested and live in the LRSD area contact us for more information or
