Electrical Trades

Do you like working with your hands, staying active at work, and have a variety of job opportunities now and in the future? 

Then working as an electrician may be the job for you. Think about it…electricity is everywhere, and the demand for skilled workers with the ability to control it is never going to go away. ATC's Electrical Trades Program is designed to train you as a Level 1 Electrical Apprentice ready to gain employment in a thriving trade.

The program provides a strong foundation in residential and commercial wiring and a variety of other electrical installations. The teacher-led classroom environment with on-site lab facility, places heavy emphasis on safe work practices and interpreting the Canadian Electrical Code.

ATC has developed an eight-credit program package focused specifically on all nine Essential Skills identified by Workplace Education Manitoba as requirements to be successful in any workplace. Skills such as reading blueprints, teamwork, numeracy, and problem solving, will prepare students with a strong foundation to begin a career in the electrical industry.

Prerequisites and Beneficial Skills

  • High school students have completed Grade 10.
  • Post-secondary students have completed Grade 12. Applicants not meeting the entrance requirements may be accepted as mature students. Skills assessment may be required.
  • Mathematical aptitude or successful completion of Grade 10 Applied Math is strongly recommended.
  • Strong reading skills.
  • Ability to distinguish colours.
  • Good physical health and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Good communication skills.

Certification

ATC will award certificates to students who successfully complete all eight courses.

Apprenticeship and Employment Opportunities

The Electrical Trades program at ATC is accredited by Apprenticeship Manitoba under the trades of Construction Electrician, Industrial Electrician, and Power Electrician.  To receive credit for Level 1 in-school Technical Training and a time credit of 900 hours students must:

  • successfully complete the Electrical Trades program.
  • maintain an accumulative average of 70% or better in all 8  trade courses.DSC_0020.JPG
  • within two years of graduating the ATC program, find employment and register with Apprenticeship Manitoba

 

*Students who gain employment and register as an apprentice within up to four years of graduating may write a placement test to determine eligibility.

$2075 per semester, $4150 full program
Student Fee$25 per semester

​Work Experience
All practical work is performed in the on-site lab facility.  Students do not participate in an off-site work practicum placement as part of the course
