BLAST Program
Understanding the difference between Childcare and the BLAST Program
Childcare and BLAST Program serve different needs and are designed to complement, not compete with each other. Each program has distinct aims and operates under different frameworks to support families in our school division.
The BLAST Program is not a licensed childcare program and therefore is not eligible for government subsidies. This program is offered by the division on a cost-recovery basis, focusing on recreational activities and social connection for school-age children.
$10 a day childcare is only available through licensed childcare providers. If you are seeking subsidized care options, with a focus on play-based early learning and childcare, please explore licensed childcare programs offered by community partners, many of which qualify for government funding support.
We encourage families to review both options to determine which program best meets their specific needs, schedule, and budget requirements.
