Principal's Log - Stars Date June 4th, 2024
Good morning!
Welcome to the first week of June and the start of the final month of the 2023/2024 academic school year. As mentioned in previous Logs, our staff have been busy ensuring they wrap up the essential learning for this year along with taking an active role in creating the classroom placements for next year! Along with staff, our students have also played a key role in class creations for next year as well. In keeping with our MYSP (Multi Year Strategic Plan) goal of enhancing student voice and agency as part of decision-making in classrooms, schools, and divisional systems, we had each Nordale student reflect and provide the names of five students they felt they would enjoy and work well with in their classroom next year. Our staff worked hard to ensure every student had at least two named peers in their class for the 24/25 year. Doing so, allowed our students to have some say in their future classroom community, as well as addressing the very important areas of social-emotional needs and belonging in the classroom. Every student knowing they will have chosen peers with them next year will help to alleviate any anxiety or worry about not having any true friend connections in the classroom. Staff did an excellent job, taking those student requests into account as they built truly balanced and equitable classrooms across the grade levels. With that being said, the classrooms are set for September 2024/2025. We will have 1 - Full Day Kindergarten, 2 – Grades 1/2 classrooms, 2 – Grades 3/4 classrooms, 2 – Grades 5/6 classrooms and 2 – Grades 7/8 classrooms. Please note that out of respect for the process, the effort and work done by our staff and students, we will not be making any class switches for next year.

Fun Lunch and Canteen
June Fun Lunches
Taco In A Bag Lunch – June 14th
Our Grade 7/8 Leadership students are also offering ‘Freezie Fridays’ for those that wish to participate!
Please note - The Nordale canteen is NOT a Hot Lunch Program, nor is it intended to replace regular lunches from home. Our canteen offers additional items for students to add to their lunches as occasional treats. We monitor how much students are spending and limit the amount of items they can buy daily.

NPAG News
Save the Date – NPAG BBQ – June 6th from 5:00PM – 8:00PM
Please let us know if you are interested in volunteering for this event and / or for events next year. As well, we will once again have a silent auction at this year's NPAG School BBQ. Last year's silent auction was a huge success! It raised over $500 for the school with the money going directly into the kids programming. If you have a donation, please drop it off at the school before Tuesday, June 4th or contact Tracy at tracyeyolfson@gmail.com for pickup. All donations are greatly appreciated.
Please contact Tracy if you have any questions. Thank you!
Thanks, NPAG for all you do for us!!

Attendance
Please help us out by calling or leaving a message with the Office if your child is going to be away. Our safety plan includes timely calls to our parents/guardians if a child has an unexplained absence. Help limit the daily calls by letting us know when your child will be missing school. We appreciate your partnership and support.
As well, once again we are right in the midst of flu and cold season. We ask that you monitor whether your child is well enough to be at school. Let’s help keep Star Nation as safe and healthy as we possibly can!
Jump Rope for Heart
The Jump Rope for Heart online fundraising campaign began on Tuesday, May 21st. Students watched a Kick-Off video and received a parent letter to bring home outlining the details of the campaign and how to register. Students who fundraise can earn gift cards for stores such as Toys R Us, Indigo and Wal-Mart. There will also be prizes at school for the top fundraisers. Our goal this year is to raise $2000.00. The school receives 8% of the total amount fundraised which we will be putting towards the purchase of new sports equipment. The campaign will run until Friday, June 7th. Students can also join the Jump Rope Club which will run on Thursdays over the lunch hour.
