Do you know a teacher who inspires students to care for the environment and take action for a more sustainable future?

Nominations are now open for the Susan Langley Earth Steward Teaching Award, a national award presented by Learning for a Sustainable Future (LSF-LST). The award recognizes Canadian teachers who demonstrate excellence and innovation in sustainability education and who empower students to become responsible local and global citizens.

The award honours the legacy of Susan Langley, former chair of LSF-LST, and celebrates educators who embed sustainability, environmental stewardship, and Indigenous ways of knowing into their classroom practice.

One recipient will receive a $1,000 prize, with additional runners-up and honourable mentions also recognized. The award is open to teachers across Canada.

Nominees are assessed on:

  • Innovative and engaging classroom-based approaches to sustainability education
  • Leadership and mentorship that inspire students and colleagues
  • Collaboration with school communities, families, and partners to support sustainability initiatives
  • Meaningful inclusion of Indigenous ways of knowing in teaching practice

Teachers may nominate themselves or be nominated by colleagues, administrators, students, or community members.

Nominations close on June 5, 2026.
