The passing of Roy David Schellenberg

July 17, 2020

It is with great sadness that the Schellenberg family has announced the sudden but peaceful passing of Roy Schellenberg on June 27, 2020.

Roy was truly a kind man, devoted to his family and his community. He was an elected St. Boniface School Division Board Trustee from 1992-2002 and was president of the Manitoba School Board Association from 1997-1998. I had the sincere pleasure of working with Roy during the voluntary amalgamation of the St. Boniface and Norwood School Divisions. We were both part of the leadership team and represented our divisions with conviction.

Roy was always a positive force on the Board.  He was passionate about public education. He had good insights as to the role of a trustee and worked hard to enhance opportunities for students and the community. He believed strongly that all students should be challenged and therefore, he strongly advocated for programs to engage gifted students. He was always respected for his consistent input into the work of the Board.

He was a man of integrity. The St. Boniface School Division and community are a better place because of Roy's many contributions.

Our sincere condolences to the family. May your memories of Roy and the support of family and friends bring you comfort as you mourn his passing.

Louise Johnston, Vice-Chair, Louis Riel School Division Board of Trustees
