Tea and Teachings with Kunsi (Grandmother) Pahan was an initiative that was created by the Indigenous Education Team last spring as a way to care for and provide emotional support to LRSD educators during the lockdown. Understanding the importance of looking to Elders as a form of emotional support and wisdom in Indigenous communities, the Indigenous Education Team thought it might be another way they could offer support to all educators during this time.
Once a week, the entire division was invited to tune in virtually with Kunsi Pahan to relax and listen to stories and teachings. They were able to interact and ask questions throughout the hour with her. For many teachers, this was the first time they had the opportunity to spend time with an Elder and many left the experience feeling renewed and revitalized. The initiative was so successful that many who partook in it requested to have it continued in the fall.
We honoured this request and would also like it to be open to not only divisional staff now, but also to families and students. Tea and Teachings with Kunsi Pahan will occur every Thursday from 7:00-8:00 p.m. for the next 8 weeks, with the exception of winter break. Please contact your school's administration for the link.
