The meeting began with a call to order and the Indigenous land acknowledgement statement by Louise Johnston, Chair, Louis Riel School Division (LRSD) Board of Trustees.
Trustee Neil Vadeboncoeur shared minutes from a recent Finance & Audit Committee meeting including preliminary audit results, school budgets and surplus expenses. He also presented recent FRAME report summaries and dates for budget conversations.
Trustee Sandy Nemeth reported on a conversation by the Community Engagement Committee proposing a draft plan for the year and also shared minutes from a recent meeting of the Riel-Evate Endowment Fund Committee.
The Board received reports from all pandemic planning taskforce team leads, which included the news that LRSD has welcomed 12 nursing practicum students from the University of Manitoba who will provide well-being and mental health supports where needed.
An update was provided to the Board on the work of our Winnipeg Police Service School Resource Officer, with additional information to be shared at a forthcoming regular meeting.
Director Tim McKay updated the Board on the International Student Program while Assistant Superintendent Henri Péloquin reminded the board of the restrictions continuing to impact student travel.
Several schools in LRSD benefit from the work of the Child Nutrition Council of Manitoba. The Board reviewed their annual report. The Boys and Girls Club of Winnipeg and the Peaceful Village program continue to provide valuable service to students and families in LRSD.
In reviewing correspondence, the board was reminded of upcoming regional meetings and professional development through the Manitoba School Boards Association (MSBA).
Ad ad-hoc committee has been established to develop a process and policy around recognizing exceptional contributions by members of the LRSD community.
Throughout the meeting, reference was made to the Annual Report to our Community (ARC), and the LRSD Multi-Year Strategic Plan (MYSP). We continue to make progress on the goals of the plan in support of student engagement and success while also recognizing the key role staff and parents play.
