Members of the newly elected Louis Riel School Division School Board held their inaugural meeting on November 6, 2018 at the Board Office at 900 St. Mary's Avenue.
Trustee Sandy Nemeth (Ward 3) was elected by her colleagues as Chair of the Board, replacing outgoing Chair Chris Sigurdson (Ward 2), who has served in that role for the past two years.
"I am 100 per cent confident that Trustee Nemeth will be a wonderful Chair. I also want to thank all my Board colleagues for [their] cooperation and teamwork. It has been an enjoyable two years," says Sigurdson.
Nemeth has served as Vice-Chair for the past two years. She will serve as Chair for a one-year term, with the option of a second year based on the will of the Board. "I'm very excited to serve both the Board and Louis Riel School Division in the role of Chair. The vote of confidence and trust placed in me by my trustee colleagues is significant, and more than a little flattering!" says Nemeth.
Louise Johnston (Ward 1) was elected Vice-Chair, replacing Sandy Nemeth in that role. All members of the Board were sworn into office, including new Trustees Neil Vadeboncoeur (Ward 3) and Pamela Kolochuk (Ward 4), as well as re-elected Trustees Cindy Turner (Ward 1), Robert Page (Ward 2), Josie Landry (Ward 3) and Tom Parker (Ward 4).
The new Board, which serves a four-year mandate, was elected on October 24, 2018 as part of the municipal elections. A public budget consultation will take place on November 13, 2018. The next regular Board meeting is November 20, 2018.
