Charlie Robert, Director of Facilities, is a 36-year veteran employee of the Louis Riel and St. Boniface School Divisions. He began his career in 1984 working as a casual custodial aide. By 1985, he became a permanent employee working as a custodial aide in various schools throughout the St. Boniface School Division, including Shamrock School, Windsor Park Collegiate and Collège Louis-Riel.
In 1988, Charlie was promoted to the position of Head Custodian at the St. Boniface School Division Board Office, having been recognized for his strong work ethic and pride in maintaining a clean building. However, his tenure at the Board Office did not last long as a year later in 1989, he seized the opportunity to move into the Maintenance Department where he was employed in the divisional carpentry shop.
Charlie's leadership skills and commitment to the safety and sanitation of the school buildings were again recognized in 1990, with a promotion to the Assistant Supervisor of Maintenance where he oversaw the custodial and maintenance departments of the entire school division.
In 2003, he was named the Supervisor of Maintenance for LRSD. He continued in this role, supporting many school improvement projects throughout the division. In 2015, Charlie became the Acting Director of Facilities until 2017, when he was officially made the Director of Facilities. He has continued to serve in this important, respected and valued role until his retirement announcement.
Charlie's legacy can be seen throughout the many facilities in LRSD as his guidance, expertise and teamwork have been instrumental in the development of many playground improvements, major renovations and additions. He has worked closely with the maintenance and custodial groups as well as advising the Senior Leadership Team and negotiating with the Public Schools Finance Board on various divisional projects. His leadership will be missed and on behalf of the entire school division, we wish him all the best in a well-deserved retirement. Charlie has been a key leader through the pandemic and will continue to support us until August 2020.
