The meeting was called to order by Board Chair Louise Johnston, who began by reading the land acknowledgement and welcoming everyone in attendance.
A joint presentation was made by members of the Indigenous Education Team, Bobbie-Jo Leclair, Manny Skead, Joel Tetrault, and Kelsey Lenaghan – and members of the Indigenous Youth Leadership group – Luc Wrigley, Isabelle Skead, Aidan Wrigley, and Mariah Meilleur. They shared how, collectively, they are building community, making connections, sharing information and how they are focused on "changing minds and hearts."
Trustee Sandy Nemeth, Chair of the Riel-Evate Endowment Fund Committee, reported that $51,128.87 was raised during the LRSD staff United Way campaign, of which $19,070.00 was directed to the Endowment Fund. Since Tuesday, those totals have grown to $51,973.87 and $20,010!
Secretary-Treasurer Jamie Rudnicki provided the financial report to September 2021. Funding has been received from the Safe Schools Grant and Learning Recovery Grant to help cover expenses incurred due to COVID-19. This includes the hiring of additional teachers and educational assistants. Superintendent Michalik presented the road map in the 2021-2022 budget process beginning with a Thought Exchange and including a community consultation on Feb. 22, 2022.
Policy JLIK - Safe Work & Learning Environment: Measures to Enhance Safety of Extra-Curricular Activities during COVID-19 received first reading
Updates to Policy ACF/ACG - Interpersonal Relations & Resolution of Concerns and Policy JK - Supporting Student Behaviour and Administrative Protocol were approved.
Updates to the Procedural By-laws of the Board of Trustees and the Trustee Indemnity By-law were approved.
