LRSD's volleyball athletes hogged the cover of the Winnipeg Free Press Sports' section on Tuesday, December 4, 2018. And for good reason. The previous night, Collège Jeanne-Sauvé's Varsity Girls Volleyball Team (above) won the AAAA provincial high school championship at the University of Manitoba's Investors Group Athletic Centre for the second year in a row. The Collège Jeanne-Sauvé Olympiens beat out the Lord Selkirk Royals in four sets. Some of the grade 12 veterans on the team had won two years in a row before that at the junior varsity level.
On the heels of that victory, the Dakota Collegiate Varsity Boys Volleyball Team (below) hit the court at Investors Group Athletic Field. The Dakota Lancers triumphed over the Lord Selkirk Royals in four sets to win the AAAA provincials.
A week earlier, Dakota's Junior Varsity Boys Volleyball Team won the AAAA Provincial Junior Varsity title, also beating out the Lord Selkirk Royals on November 26, 2018 at Investors Group Athletic Centre.
The three teams took three of the four provincial volleyball titles, an incredible achievement for LRSD's athletes.
LRSD Trustees Tom Parker, Sandy Nemeth and Chris Sigurdson (below) attended the December 3, 2018 championship games to cheer on the LRSD teams.
Congratulations to the players, coaches and schools for all their hard work! Photos courtesy of Sandy Nemeth and Chris Sigurdson.
