The first meeting for 2019 began with a presentation by members of LRSDs instructional support team (see image below). Trustees were able to ask questions about a new initiative now in the planning stages designed to improve numeracy skills in students in grades one to nine. The opportunity to see some of the planning pieces allowed us to better understand the process, and we look forward to receiving more information in the future. Thank you to Lauren Mitchell-Lawson, Robin Plouffe-Hingley, Carole Rondeau, Kim Adair-Gagnon, Cathy-Ann Winters, Thaddeus Bourassa, Patrice Chartrand and Vanessa Thibault for sharing their expertise and answering our questions!
Now that the holiday break is over, your School Board is eager to continue the work of developing a multi-year strategic plan. We will be providing regular updates as we undertake this journey, and we look forward to sharing the final plan by the end of the school year. Stage one is the development of a new vision, mission, and values statement for LRSD, replacing the current one which is now 16 years old. Thoughtexchange, an engagement platform, will be the vehicle by which we gather the thoughts and ideas from staff, teachers, parents and students that will inform and support this work.
The budget planning process for the 2019–20 school year is well underway, with many hours of conversation yet to go, and an important public budget consultation on February 12th. As all this unfolds, we look forward to meeting and talking with you, our community, in schools and at events, over the next weeks and months. Happy New Year!
