At the Board meeting, Adriano Magnifico, high school career development consultant,
made a presentation to the Board, Louis Riel School Division (LRSD) senior administration, and guests in attendance that provided an in-depth look at career development in LRSD.
His analogy of collecting 'dots," such as technical and applied learning, career planning, and entrepreneurship exploration, and then connecting those dots on the way to achieving The LRSD Skills Credential assisted the Board in better understanding the career planning opportunities available to our students. Along with PROpel and MyBlueprint, students have many opportunities that will allow them to leave high school with some sense of what the next steps could be.
Trustee Neil Vadeboncoeur reported the Finance & Audit committee's work specific to the 2021-2022 budget and COVID-19 expense monitoring.
Trustee Sandy Nemeth updated the Board on the work of the Riel-Evate Endowment Fund Committee.
Several updates were provided, including the status of capital projects underway or approved.
Draft Policy GDG: Non-Teaching Casual Employees: Paid Administrative Leave for Self-isolation Period After Work-related Exposure received third reading and was adopted.
Time was invested in discussing how a recent initiative in Seven Oaks School Division might inform discussions the Board would like to have as we strive to ensure safe, welcoming, and respectful working and learning environments.
By Board motion, the LRSD Treaty Acknowledgement will now be referred to as the LRSD Land Acknowledgement. Changes were developed in consultation with members of our Indigenous Council of Grandmothers and Grandfathers. Their guidance, collaboration, and generosity during this process will always be deeply appreciated.
The next regular meeting of the LRSD Board of Trustees is Tuesday, January 19, 2021.
All are welcome, with the agenda and attendance registration details published at www.lrsd.net
on Friday, Jan. 15.
