The last Louis Riel School Division Board Meeting of 2020 began with Board Chair Louis Johnston welcoming members of the community, members of the Louis Riel School Division (LRSD) Senior Leadership Team, and fellow trustees who joined the meeting via Microsoft Teams.
The Board Chair recognized the unique and challenging year that 2020 was and thanked all LRSD staff and community for their incredible hard work and trust during these unprecedented times.
Constable Marnie Minkus, School Resource Officer for LRSD, and Inspector Bonnie Emerson, Patrol Sergeant Chad Goodall and Sergeant Rich Lemire, members of the Winnipeg Police Service, made a presentation to the Board regarding the School Resource Officer (SRO) program. They shared different ways the SRO has interacted with students over the last few months and how the current pandemic has limited the ability to be in schools.
The Community Engagement Committee brought forward The Lance publication schedule for Trustees. Trustees will continue to contribute monthly to The Lance in 2021 with reports specific to their Ward.
The Finance and Audit Committee brought forward an update regarding the expenses to date related to COVID. These expenditures have all been submitted to the Manitoba government for approval and reimbursement.
As a standing committee item, the Board received updates to the pandemic response and the Temporary Learning from Home option that was initiated by the Manitoba government for the first two weeks of January.
In support of students that will be doing remote learning for the first two weeks of January, LRSD has provided online resources that can be found on their website.
The Board Chair provided an update on the conversation had with the City of Winnipeg councillors earlier this evening. We thanked them for finding time in their schedules to meet with us and discuss concerns and opportunities within our division and school communities.
The next regular meeting of the Board is Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
