For the most current COVID-19 and suspended classes information, please visit this updated news story. We will no longer be updating this page after March 15.

With the constantly evolving COVID-19 situation in Canada and abroard, parents and guardians in the Louis Riel School Division (LRSD) may have questions or concerns about its potential impact in the division.

We encourage everyone to stay up to date on the latest and most accurate COVID-19 news by visiting the Public Health Agency of Canada. For factsheets, FAQ's, posters encouraging proper hand hygience and coughing tips, please visit the Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living website.

Staff in schools and throughout LRSD will continue to closely monitor the situation and are aware of the proper health and safety precautions and procedures to ensure the well-being of our staff and students. The division also works closely with representatives from Manitoba Education as well as Manitoba health professionals to stay on top of the latest information and developments.

Currently, there has been one presumptive case of COVID-19 in Manitoba, but the the risk of infection to Canada and Canadian travellers remains low.

As always, common prevention measures during the cold and flu season are encouraged.
These include:
  • Washing your hands regularly with warm water and soap for at least 15 seconds. If soap and water are unavailable, and if your hands are not visibly dirty, an alcohol-based hand cleanser may be used.
  • Covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing and sneezing, or you can cough of sneeze into your sleeve.
  • Avoiding close contact (within two meters/six feet) with anyone showing symptoms of a respiratory illness such as coughing or sneezing.
  • Staying home when you are sick, regardless of recent travel.

Specific health concerns should be directed to your family physician or by calling the  WRHA Health Links line  at (204) 788-8200 or 1-888-315-9257 (toll-free).

Please visit the Public Health Agency of Canada’s website for more information.
