Excitement and innovation are powering the start of the first school year at École Sage Creek School.
Built with an understanding of what we now know is good for kids, École Sage Creek School offers students and staff a modern learning environment organized around four learning neighborhoods offering collaborative spaces, flexible furniture, learning commons and gender-neutral bathrooms.
École Sage Creek School has also been designed with the goal of energy efficiency in mind. Geothermal energy is heating and cooling the school, eliminating greenhouse gas emissions and reducing energy costs 50 to 70 percent!
The school's outside space is set to engage students in their work. Outdoor learning spaces have been designed for group activities, encouraging students to work, learn and actively participate with one another. To help students maintain a deep connection with outdoor space, École Sage Creek School utilizes large windows throughout its commons to bring in as much sunlight as possible.
With the population in the Division steadily growing, LRSD has officially requested the Provincial Government approve the construction of a second school in the community and as an interim measure immediately build portable classrooms on the existing school site. École Sage Creek School opened to 630 students, already over the school capacity of 600 students. Our projection models that forecasted we would open a school at or above capacity indicate that by 2020 there will be 900 kids in grades K-8 within the community.
We're excited to see the students, staff and Sage Creek community come together and begin changing worlds within their new school!
