Students interested in French Immersion programming and high school football will have greater flexibility.
The Manitoba High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Board of Directors has approved a proposed amendment to its co-oping schools policy, allowing Collège Béliveau and Windsor Park Collegiate to operate a football co-op beginning in the 2026-2027 school year. The proposal was also approved through the Winnipeg High School Football League (WHSFL) process, clearing the way for implementation this fall.
The new arrangement removes a barrier that some students and families have faced when choosing between French Immersion programming and participating in high school athletics. Students can now remain enrolled at Collège Béliveau while participating in the football program offered in partnership with Windsor Park Collegiate.
This enhanced access supports Louis Riel School Division's (LRSD) Multi-Year Strategic Plan (MYSP) commitment to expanding opportunities within French Immersion programming by ensuring students can pursue both academics and extracurricular interests.
In addition to competing with the co-op football team, Collège Béliveau student athletes will be eligible to participate in Windsor Park Collegiate's Football Academy physical education course while remaining registered at Béliveau.
Families of current Grade 8 students and high school French Immersion students who are interested in learning more about football opportunities through Collège Béliveau are encouraged to contact cboffice@lrsd.net.
The football co-op will take effect for the 2026-27 school year.
