The LRSD Board of Trustees accepted the retirement notice for Lyette Carriere on Dec. 2, 2025.
Lyette received her Bachelor of Education from Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface in 1993, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in 1996. A lifelong learner, Lyette received her Master of Education from Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface in 2008.
Lyette started her teaching career in 1993 at École St. Adolphe and École Saint-Norbert Immersion. In 1994, she joined the St. Boniface School Division as a teacher at École Provencher. Lyette spent nearly ten years at École Provencher serving in various roles before being appointed as Vice-Principal at École Julie-Riel. In 2005, she transferred to École Varennes, and in 2007 she was appointed Principal at École Howden. Lyette returned to École Provencher in 2012 as Principal. In 2019, she returned to École Julie-Riel where her leadership journey began, and where she will be finishing her career with the Louis Riel School Division.
As a school leader, Lyette provides a sense of direction, clarity, and confidence to the school community. She is eager to engage in professional learning to enhance her leadership skills as well as to develop pedagogical knowledge on topics such as literacy, numeracy, and social development. Lyette always strives to promote good rapport and dialogue between the staff, and between the school and parents to create a sense of collaboration and community.
Part of Lyette’s philosophy of education states, “We must put emphasis on building relationships and community. Through education, we find integrity, wisdom, and authenticity in life. Schools help mold who students are as people, and educators have a responsibility to offer authentic experiences and community.”
As a staunch advocate for French Immersion, Lyette has devoted her career to supporting and advancing French Immersion programs within our division. Her leadership and passion have made a meaningful difference, and her contributions will remain an important part of our continued success.
We wish Lyette all the best in her retirement.
