Bioswale at EJR

We are excited to share an update about a new and environmentally-friendly project taking place in our school yard—a bioswale! A bioswale is a landscape element designed to manage water runoff, reduce pollution, and enhance the beauty of the area. It functions by filtering rainwater through vegetation and soil, removing contaminants before the water reaches our stormwater system or groundwater supplies.

One of our dedicated parents has generously taken on the task of creating a bioswale for our school. This weekend, she spent countless hours preparing the area, ensuring it is ready for our students to begin planting. This project not only improves our school environment but also serves as a wonderful educational opportunity for our students to learn about sustainability and environmental stewardship. The bioswale has been carefully designed to have a large pathway to cross into the field and will not only be more esthetically beautiful in the yard and be purposeful to manage the runoff water, but it will also eliminate the large mud area that proved to be quite problematic.

This week, a group of students will be actively involved in planting native vegetation in the bioswale, contributing to its development and learning hands-on about its importance. We are incredibly grateful to this parent for her hard work and commitment to enhancing our school grounds. Her dedication is truly inspiring and greatly appreciated.
