Dog Therapy
Meet Cayer and Carrie!

Cayer is our in-school therapy dog that started with us in September 2022. Carrie is her handler who has been with us since January 2022. Cayer is a Labrador Retriever who has a sweet spirit and loves people. Carrie and Cayer have completed puppy classes, level 1 and 2 obedience, rally classes, and a novice trick class earning a title. Cayer also has her Canadian Champion show title.
Cayer has been independently going to schools since 2018 and adores working with students through Kobe’s Way Therapy Dogs. Cayer has been certified through St. John’s Ambulance alongside Carrie, who is their evaluator, and together they help with special events within the community.
As part of the certification process, Cayer is up to date with all her immunizations and in good health. Dogs are assessed through Kobe’s Way Therapy Dogs for their suitability and their temperament. If there are any allergies or other concerns that would restrict your child’s access to therapy dog services, it is especially important that they are communicated to school personnel so that we can respond appropriately.
Therapy dogs support students in various ways including reducing anxiety, social inclusion, encouraging meaningful communication, occupational therapy support, teaching prosocial behaviors, and literacy support.
If you would like more information or would like to visit with Cayer – please see your grade level SST - a consent form needs to be signed by parents in order to schedule visits with Cayer.
