Highbury Code of Conduct
Highbury Code of Conduct
Highbury School aspires to be a welcoming, safe, caring and inclusive school community, where effective teaching and learning can occur. Everyone in our school has the right to be safe and happy so that we can work and learn. All students are expected to conduct themselves appropriately at school, as well as at any school-related activity in the larger community. Students and staff must act in a respectful manner and work towards our Statement of Beliefs.
We Believe…
Effective teaching and learning occur best in a positive school climate that promotes a sense of belonging for students where students are engaged in their learning. Through both the social and academic curriculum, teachers work with students to learn cooperation, respect, empathy and responsibility. The partnership between the school and the home is essential as together this team is responsible for guiding each child’s growth and development.
1. Safety
At our school, safety comes first. We keep ourselves and others safe by following rules, using kind actions, and thinking before we act. We take care of our bodies, our feelings, and our school so everyone can learn and play in an inclusive environment.
2. Respect
Respect for Self:
We show respect for ourselves by making healthy choices, being honest, and doing our best. We believe in our own worth and treat ourselves with kindness and care. Respecting ourselves means standing up for what is right, learning from mistakes, and believing that we can grow every day.
Respect for Others:
We believe that every person deserves to be treated with kindness, fairness, and dignity. We show respect for others by listening, using kind words, and accepting differences. We value each other’s ideas, feelings, and personal space, and we work together to create a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.
Respect for the Environment:
We show respect for our school environment by keeping our classrooms, hallways, and grounds clean and organized. We take care of school property, including books, furniture, and supplies, and use them responsibly. We respect the work of others by being considerate of noise levels, following classroom expectations, and contributing to a positive and welcoming atmosphere.
3. Responsibility
Students, staff and families must work together to create an environment that fosters student success. However, sometimes people make mistakes while learning to work and play with others. When challenging situations arises, the school will work with students, using developmentally processes, to encourage an understanding of their behaviour and its impact on others. Our focus is always on learning and growth, acquiring new skills and strategies to improving the situation, repair relationships and restoring a safe and positive environment in the school.
