Alternative Logo and Its Story

This logo symbolizes our connection to the land and acknowledges the paths that brought us here and guides us to a better future. As we continue the journey, we must stay rooted in our sense of belonging, community and family. We will be better tomorrow than we were today.
The Lion is the core of the logo which embodies the spirit within the school. This spirit runs within staff, students and the community throughout the year and everything we do.
The sun is on the east and the moon on the west, symbolizing that day or night you remain a lion and you belong here. The stream of northern lights reminds us of our connection to life in the sky. The lights are in constant movement yet create a fluid balance between night and day.
The white spruce tree line pays homage to Manitoba’s provincial tree. The ten trees represent the ten months of the school year and symbolize growth within one’s time at Glenlawn and throughout their life.
The three people signify the students, the staff and the community working together within the same space. Smoke created by the smudge within the shell leaves into the air to remind us that we need one another for strength and that we always see each other in a good way.
The river on either side of the Lion’s head pays tribute to the Red River Settlement as well as the Treaty promise made on this territory. “As long as the sun shines, the grass grows and the river flows”. The river below the Lion’s head paying homage to the many bodies of water in Manitoba, the life within the water, and that water is life sustaining.
Above the Lion’s head, the feather transitions from light to dark, symbolizing purpose. The top of the feather represents one’s purpose in life which is often discovered through education and by applying this learning toward deeper meaning. The etched lines along the feather’s edge represent the obstacles we overcome on the path to finding this purpose.
Encircling all elements is Martin Brokenleg’s Circle of Courage which is our foundation and grounds us in these ways of being and reminds us to live and learn in a balanced, holistic way.
