  • MAG Community Update - February 2nd

A reminder that Friday, February 3rd, is a PD Day, so there are no classes for students.

Feedback from Families about Student Belonging and the Balanced School Day:

We have now heard from 82 families who have completed this survey so far to provide feedback on two important areas:

    1. The level of belonging that you feel your child(ren) has at school.
    2. The current school schedule for grade 1-6 students which follows the “balanced school day” (three equal learning blocks separated by longer recesses and nutrition breaks).

Students in grades 3 to 8 completed a similar survey this week. We appreciate families taking 5 minutes to provide this valuable feedback as we continue to explore how best to support student belonging, as well as your opinions on how our daily schedule responds to students’ needs.

    Kindergarten Information Night:

We will be hosting potential kindergarten families on Thursday, February 16th at 7:00 p.m. Any families with children expecting to (or considering) attending MAG for next year are asked to fill in this form.

    LRSD Powwow Club:

The school division is happy to once offer a Powwow Club , with all students from all schools in LRSD are invited to participate, with no prior experience required. Powwow Club has been an excellent opportunity for students, families, and staff to come together as an inclusive community while celebrating and learning about Indigenous culture. Powwow Club runs twice per month and will culminate with participation in the Graduation Powwow in early June. Transportation and supervision of students is the responsibility of families and/or the home school. Please let us know if there are students who are interested!

    News from the PAC:

The next PAC meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 7th, at 6:30 p.m. Key planning items will include the return of the annual Winterlude, as well as March’s Read-A-Thon. All are welcome and encouraged to join!

    Possibly Family Skate Night:

Although the weather is expected to be cold for the next little while, we are considering the possibility of hosting a Family Skate Night on our rink one evening in February. If there are parents who would be open to attending and possibly helping hand out hot chocolate to participants, please contact Micheline.scott@lrsd.net to coordinate the possibility. We have many sizes of skates and helmets available, so this could be a great opportunity for families who haven’t had the chance to do much skating, as well as those who already enjoy ice skating.

    Festival du Voyageur:

Here are the activities anticipated for the week of February 21st-24th:

    • Tuesday 21st: Hého Bingo; voyageur crafts
    • Wednesday 22nd: Pancake breakfast for students, with a live band (a.m.)
    • Thursday 23rd: “La Tire” pulled taffy activity
    • Friday 24th: Voyageur stations (indoor/outdoor)

    Families Looking for Child Care:

We have a few families in our community who are looking for either half or full-day child care. If anyone has information about daycare openings, please let us know so that we can pass this on.
