MAG Community Update - October 24th
A reminder that there is NO SCHOOL for students on Friday, October 25th as it is the annual MTS PD Day.
Staffing Announcement:
At this week’s divisional board meeting, it was announced that Tyler will be moving to École George McDowell as Principal in January, following the winter break. This information was shared with school staff following the meeting and will be shared with students as well; we wanted to let the community know and we will announce who the new principal will be as soon as it is known. Having been at MAG since the 2015-16 school year, Tyler is still reflecting on the past 9 years and will have more to share about this great experience before the holidays.
MAG Students Doing Wonderful Things:
We will be having a first spirit week of the year next week, in support of United Way. Further details are included in the attached letter, but here is an overview of the two themes and possible donations for each day:
Spirit week 2024.docxMonday, Oct. 28: Silly Hair OR Wacky Socks – collecting donations of 5 or 10 cent pieces
Tuesday, Oct. 29: Sports or Superheroes – 25 cent pieces
Wednesday, Oct. 30: Hats or Tie Dye – 1-dollar coins
Thursday, Oct. 31: Costumes or Black & Orange – 2-dollar coins
Friday, Nov. 1: Pyjamas or Rainbow Colors – paper money or coins of your choiceAll students are also invited to visit the annual Haunted House in the gym with their classes on October 31st. The setup is age appropriate for the different grade levels and it is optional for any students who are worried.
2024 MAG Wear:
This year’s edition of our MAG Wear clothing line can be found in the attached order form. Hard copies of the form will be sent home to each family be the beginning of next week, and extra copies can be picked up from the office. Orders and payment are due by Monday, November 4th, with no late orders accepted so that we can ensure delivery before the winter break. 2024 MAG Wear Order Form.pdf
Nutrition Program:
This Wednesday, we made baby carrots available for all students who wanted, in their classrooms. Additional snacks continue to be available for free in the canteen for anyone who needs. Every time we give out snacks to the whole school, we get an influx of students asking for snacks at the canteen. Obviously, this is part of the point, to promote the availability of food to those who may be hungry regularly or on a given day. We do appreciate your efforts at home to reinforce the importance of making food available for those who truly need it. Our next school-wide snack will likely be various granola bars with a gluten free option as well.
Student Attendance:
As we are nearly two months into the school year, we have begun reaching out to families of students who have missed a number of days of school already this year. Should this be the case for your family, you can expect a first contact from the classroom teacher if a student has missed more than 10% of school days. School admin will follow up with families for whom regular attendance continues to be an issue, with the goal of working together to have all students at school as often as possible.
Other announcements or reminders:
-Updates about our school plan and staff learning goals can be found on the school website.
-Our Lost & Found bins are already overflowing. If students are missing items, please encourage them to check the bins or feel free to come by after school hours to have a look.
