MAG Community Update - May 16th
News from the Parent Advisory Committee:
The final Subway Fun Lunch is on May 30th, with signup available in healthyhunger.ca.
The Summer Celebration is booked for the evening of Wednesday, June 12th. Look for more information to follow! If any community members have access to bagged ice at a reduced cost, please let us know!
School Pizza Day:
Forms have gone out for the pizza lunch fundraiser on Friday, May 24th. Order forms and payment are due back at school Friday, May 17th.
Restroom Renovation:
Starting May 27th, the female washroom near the gym will be closed for renovations, lasting until the end of the year. Opening in the fall, this will be a universal washroom with individual floor-to-ceiling stalls and an open hand-washing area to service all students in this corner of the school. Students normally accessing this washroom will have to use other washrooms available in the school during the remaining five weeks.
Roots of Empathy Program:
We continue to offer the Roots of Empathy program to at least one classroom of students each school year. To make this happen, we need a family connected to our community with a newborn baby who would be interested in participating throughout the year. Please contact danielle.boudreau@lrsd.net if you are interested or have questions.
Review of Cell Phone Policy:
Many schools and school divisions are reviewing their cell phone policies for students. Although this isn’t really a change in policy, we are promoting to students for the rest of the year that cell phones are never allowed in hallways or outside during recess, along with signage confirming this expectation. Students are essentially only permitted to use their cell phones in class when permitted by teachers for a learning purpose, and Grade 7/8 students can access them during the half hour they eat lunch. As such, phones should not be visible at any other times during the school day. We will be reviewing this approach for next school year, including whether we want to further restrict the use of cell phones as many schools have done recently. As always, we are open to the community’s feedback as we review this policy.
