LRSD Kindergarten to Grade 12 Powwow Club 2024
We are pleased to invite all students and families from Kindergarten to Grade 12 within the Louis Riel School Division to participate in the 2024 Divisional Powwow Club.
The Powwow Club will take place at the René Deleurme Centre on Wednesdays, biweekly, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The scheduled dates for the sessions are as follows:
- January 31
- February 14, 28
- March 13, 20
- April 3, 17
- May 1, 15, 29
- June 5 - Graduation Powwow (location to be determined)
The Powwow Club aims to provide cultural teachings and immersive experiences for participants. The club will be divided into three groups:
- Group 1: Kindergarten - Grade 6 Instruction for Fancy Shawl and Grass Dance
- Group 2: Grade 7-12 Instruction for Fancy Shawl and Grass Dance
- Group 3: Caregivers will have the opportunity to spend time with Kookum Hilda for community teachings and conversations
We will provide a light snack for participants and caregivers during the sessions.
Understanding that transportation may be a barrier for some families, once registration forms are returned, we will collaborate with schools to organize a transportation plan if needed.
Please note that Regalia making will not be conducted during these sessions to allow participants and caregivers to fully immerse themselves in the experience. Separate sessions for Regalia making will be organized at different times and locations, both during the day and in the evenings.
We appreciate your ongoing support for the success of the LRSD Powwow Club. Registration forms to participate in this year's Powwow Club are available from each school. If you have any questions or require clarification, please do not hesitate to contact Tammy Bruce at tammy.bruce@lrsd.net.
