Ignite a career plan at LRSD’s Career And Post-Secondary Symposium
LRSD families along with the community are encouraged to attend LRSD’s signature Career Exploration and Planning Evening on November 21 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Louis Riel Arts and Technology Centre at 5 De Bourmont Avenue.
The Career and Post-Secondary Symposium (also know as 'CAPS’) will be full of lively discourse about plans and decisions regarding career path, post-secondary education, and high school course selections.
Student and parents/guardians can explore the future with 26 universities and colleges, The Louis Riel Arts and Technology Centre, Apprenticeship Manitoba, 40+ industry professionals in a Career Café with over 40 different industry professionals, live job boards and résumé help hosted by YES Manitoba and Volunteer Manitoba, an RBC interview practice space, The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce, and loads of career conversations that can answer curious questions such as these:
- What is the difference between university and college?
- How do computer science programs compare at a university and college?
- How do I become a firefighter?
- What does a full stack engineer do?
- What is the difference between nurse and a midwife?
- How do I become an apprentice?
- How do I conduct an interview?
- How do I attract employers with my résumé?
- Where can I find a part-time job?
- Where can I find a volunteer opportunity?
Sarah Benes, a student in the Applied Business Management Program at the LRATC, believes CAPS can allay uncertainties that often emerge in post-high school planning.
“As a high school student, I always worry whether the path I’m deciding to go down is really the one for me or not," said Sarah. "I believe CAPS will help solidify people’s choices and give them a peace of mind or guide them to what they’re meant to do.”
Laura La Palme, owner of L2 Marketing and a mentor in the CAPS Career Café space, believes that “taking time to meet professionals is like opening a door to a world of possibilities.”
