Planning for University and College
Information about many post-secondary institutions can be found at Manitoba Education and Literacy Post-Secondary Education. This can be an excellent starting point as it exposes students to the many educational opportunities available to a student after they graduate.
Some of the more common schools attended by our graduates are listed on the right as well.
Students are responsible for ensuring that they take the necessary prerequisite high school courses to enter the faculty of their choice at university. The following university requirement checklist is presented as a general guide.
Students who wish to attend a university must possess a High School diploma including:
- At least five grade 12 courses with four different subject areas represented
- At least three grade 12 courses must be at the S level
- Math and English must be included
Note: Gr. 12 Phys. Ed. is a foundation level course; it can’t be used for university entrance.
Most post-secondary programs require specific grade 12 courses. Required courses are listed in college and university calendar books. Students are responsible for ensuring that they take the necessary prerequisite high school courses to enter the program of their choice after they graduate. Information regarding entrance requirements for specific universities/schools and their faculties and college program prerequisites are available in the Student Services office.
Important Note: It is the responsibility of each student to know that they have the sufficient number of credits and the appropriate prerequisites for entrance into their desired post-secondary institutions.
