  • Remembering the 215 - 2023

On May 27, 2021, the world woke up to news about 215 Indigenous children who were uncovered in a mass grave at Kamloops Indian Residential School. Since then, more than 10,000 additional children have been uncovered at various residential schools across Turtle Island.

As a way to honour and remember them, the Louis Riel School Division Indigenous Education Team will hold a pipe ceremony and sacred fire on May 26, 2023 from sunrise to sunset at Collège Jeanne-Sauvé. Two hundred and fifteen tobacco ties will be offered in their honour and orange remembrance flags will be burned.

Throughout the day, schools are encouraged to participate in 215 seconds of silence.

Schools are also invited to CJS throughout the day to offer tobacco ties or remembrance flags if they would like.
