  • Public Board Meeting Highlights – November 15, 2022

The meeting was called to order by the Chair of the Board, Sandy Nemeth, who began by reading the division’s land acknowledgement and welcoming everyone in attendance.

Members of the Indigenous Youth Leadership (IYL) group shared their experience during Culture Camp in October. With the support and guidance of knowledge keepers, language speakers, local community members, and the division’s Indigenous Education Team, the camp provided an opportunity for IYL students to participate in a week of various cultural experiences such as Indigenous games, star teachings, medicine picking, sweat-lodge building, harvesting traditional foods, fish filleting and more.

Superintendent Michalik presented information on the use of data in monitoring the Louis Riel School Division’s (LRSD) Multi-Year Strategic Plan and reviewed the student achievement and enrolment and diversity data discovery dashboards. A draft roadmap for the 2023-2024 budget was approved.

Superintendent Michalik and other members of the Senior Leadership Team provided information on a number of items including capital projects, enrolment, student and staff absences, updates to the accessibility plan, the Manitoba Remote Learning Support Centre and the government’s Education Council. Highlights from the Pan-Canadian Summit on K-12 Workplace Wellbeing and the Leadership Team Meeting of Nov. 9 were also provided, as well as an update on the divisional staff learning day on Nov. 25 and a breakdown of communications metrics for October. Attention was drawn to the newly updated trustee information and contact page.

The following policies received third reading and were adopted: Policy IKFC - Graduation Requirements - Substitution of Credits 2022 and Policy IGCC and Administrative Protocol - Challenge for Credit Option - Grade 9-12.

    Correspondence was recorded as received.

The meeting adjourned at 8:55 p.m.

The next regular meeting of the board is Tuesday, December 6. The agenda will be published at www.lrsd.net on December 2.
