The LRSD Board of Trustees accepted the notice of retirement from Kim Melvin on Dec. 2, 2025.
Kim completed her Bachelor of Education at the University of Manitoba (U of M) in 1994. She later earned a Diploma in Education with a focus on Adult Education and Library Education from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2009. In 2012, she received her Master of Educational Technology from UBC, followed by a Master of Education from the U of M in 2019.
Kim began her career in 1994 as a term teacher at Frontenac School in the St. Boniface School Division. In 1997, she taught at Pacific Junction School in the Pembina Trails School Division. Kim accepted a permanent position at Marion School in 1998. Her teaching journey continued at Shamrock School in 2000 and at the brand-new Island Lakes Community School in 2001. In 2008, Kim transitioned into a divisional role as Coordinator of Instructional Technology. She went on to teach various courses at Nelson McIntyre Collegiate in 2013 before serving as a divisional ICT Instructional Coordinator in 2014.
Kim stepped into school administration as Vice-Principal of Glenlawn Collegiate in 2015 and later transitioned to the Vice-Principalship at Victor H.L. Wyatt School. Most recently, in 2023, she became Vice-Principal of Samuel Burland School.
Kim leads by example. She fosters relationships built on respect, cooperation, and trust among students, staff, and families. Kim is a thoughtful listener; she excels as a facilitator and empowers others to grow, contribute, and succeed.
We are grateful for Kim’s many years of service and wish her a happy and fulfilling retirement.
