Social Work Breaks Barriers
LRSD wants to acknowledge all the great work our School Social Workers do every day, but especially in March during Social Work Month. This year’s theme for Social Work Month is “Social Work Breaking Barriers”. School Social Workers break through barriers that prevent access to the care students and families need and help break barriers that keep people from living life to the fullest.
The LRSD School Social Work team has been advocating for the rights of individuals, families, and communities to create equity in our society. Of particular focus this year has been on improving the lives of our Indigenous students and families. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission calls on Canadians from all walks of life to act, with multiple recommendations specific to the work social workers are involved with every day. The LRSD School Social Workers are using the Circle of Courage to inform their work with all students to develop their belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity.
We thank the School Social Workers for their ongoing dedication and commitment to the lives of our students, families, and community.
